I expected Lang Li to take me back to my room. He didn’t. Instead, he carried me through a quieter corridor toward his personal wing.

“Where are we going?”I asked, confused.

“My chambers.”He said.

I immediately stopped struggling. Behind us, several guards exchanged glances.

“His Majesty is taking Prince Wei to his private wing.”One quietly whispered.

“Could this be…” Another’s eyes widened. “Bond making?”

They immediately looked at each other.

“We saw nothing.”First one said.

“Agreed.”Another one nodded.

The guards discreetly turned away and began clearing the corridor. Meanwhile, I was still over Lang Li’s shoulder.

“This is humiliating!”I groaned.

“You refused to walk.”Lang Li sighed.

“That doesn’t mean you can carry me like luggage!”I argued.

“Too late.”He kept walking.

Lang Li finally carried me through the doors of his chambers I immediately forgot how to complain. The room was enormous, decorated with dark wood, gold details, and huge windows overlooking the palace gardens. Then I saw the bed, and it was enormous. Right in the center of the room, and I immediately became nervous.

“Why is your bed so huge?”I asked.

“Because I like space.”Lang Li glanced at it.

“Right.”I sighed.

My imagination immediately became my worst enemy.I looked away.

“Ding. Host anxiety detected.”A system said.

“Not helping.”I sighed.

“Rest. Nothing will happen without your permission.”Lang Li carefully set me down on the couch.

“Really?”I blinked.

“Really.”He said.

I finally relaxed slightly.

I slowly walked toward the enormous window, grateful for the distraction. The palace gardens looked peaceful from up here.

“Ding.”A system said. “Emperor Lang Li relationship affection: 32%.” Another notification appeared. “Host romantic affection toward Emperor Lang Li: 52%.”

“Why is mine increasing too?”I asked.

Before the system could answer, I felt someone behind me. Lang Li’s arms gently wrapped around my waist.

“Your Majesty?”I stiffened.

“You looked nervous.”He rested his chin lightly near my shoulder.

“I was thinking.”I said.

“About leaving?”He asked.

“No.”I shook my head.

For some reason, I didn’t pull away. Instead, I quietly leaned back against him. The movement was unprompted, deliberate. Lang Li hand slid down from the window, his palm flat and heavy as he placed it firmly against my stomach, drawing him tighter against my body.

“Lean forward.” He commanded. It wasn’t a request. “Hands near you and head down.” His other hand wandered upward, fingers tangling into my hair at the nape of his neck, pulling it back just enough to expose the jugular, enough to control him without causing pain.

“Why you holding me like this?” I asked. “You carried me past your guards and they saw everything.”

Past my guards?” He repeated, his tone sharpening. “You think because you can sneak through a door you’re safe? No. You crossed a line the moment you stepped onto this rug.”

Lang Li hand on my stomach spread wider, his fingers curving slightly against my waist. He leaned forward, using his weight to pin even harder against the window.

“I don’t care about what happened in the hallways.” He murmured, lowering his voice to something raw and quiet. “I care that right now, you’re exactly where I want you.”

A low rumble started in Lang Li chest, not a laugh, but a sound of pure, predatory satisfaction. His nose slid along the side of my neck as he inhaled deeply.

“A beta with that kind of attitude…” His breath hit a patch of bare skin below Elith’s ear. “It makes things far more interesting than an omega reciting poetry.”

He released the hair at the nape of my neck only to let his lips follow that line of skin down toward the shoulder.

“One more smart remark.” He warned, his teeth grazing my collarbone through the outfit. “And I remind you that you don’t have any authority to argue with me.”

“You can’t dance with me one second and trap against the window the next.” I gasp as I feel the grind of his hips against my outfit. “What are yo-u?”

I suddenly let out another weird noise. What was happening to me? I am straight, I not supposed to make sounds like these

“I never claimed to be predictable.” He grunted.

Right now, it was just him, low, dark, and possessively warm. One hand left the window, curling into the fabric of my shirt at his side to haul him backward a few inches more, ensuring there wasn’t even air between their bodies anymore. He nudged my head down toward the surface again, but he wasn’t gentle about it.

“There is no music playing in this room. There is only me. And right now, you are going to listen.” He pulled back just enough to look down at me, though I couldn’t see him face to face.

Lang Li reached down with both hands and gripped my waist, lifting him just slightly so he was forced to stand on the very tips of my toes to maintain balance.

“Tell me.”Lang Li said, his nostrils catching the specific scent of my neck again. “Is that heartbeat I am feeling against your back because you are a bad little servant… or because you like being pinned?”

“I am not answering that.”My entire face burned.

I tried to wiggle away from the window, but his arms tightened around me.

“Ding. ERROR. Emperor Lang Li emotional response exceeds normal parameters.” Another message flashed. “Elevated attraction detected.”

“Oh, wonderful.” I muttered.

“What?”He asked.

“Nothing!”I gasped as I tried stepping forward.

Lang Li gently caught my chin and turned my face toward him. His golden eyes were intense.

“Wei.”He looked at me.

Before I could answer, he leaned down and kissed me. The kiss was hungry, but not forceful. His hand remained at my waist, giving me every opportunity to pull away. I froze for one stunned second. Then my eyes slipped closed.

“Ding. Emperor Lang Li relationship affection: 33%.”A system said.

Lang Li pulled me closer, stealing another lingering kiss. My thoughts completely scattered, I grabbed his robe, more from surprise than anything else, and immediately realized how dangerously comfortable I had become in his arms.

“Ding. Emotional response detected.”A system said.

“Please don’t.”I groaned.

“Emperor Lang Li relationship affection: 34%.”A system said.

I buried my face against his shoulder the moment he finally pulled back.

“This is becoming a problem.”I sighed, flustered.

“Perhaps.”He quietly laughed.

“You are enjoying this far too much.”I said.

“Maybe I am.”He smiled softly.

I groaned as this palace was determined to destroy whatever dignity I had left.
