Chapter 81: The Silent Infiltration

0 Views 0 Comments

The midnight sky over Crimson Nimbus Sect was swallowed by thick clouds. No moonlight. No starlight. Only absolute darkness.

Through the rugged pathways, a shadow moved. It flowed from one patch of darkness to another, like ink dissolving into water.

Lady Yun. Queen of the Underground Ghost Market. Foundation Establishment assassin.

She wore a skin-tight suit of Tier-2 Shadow Panther hide. It compressed her voluptuous curves for aerodynamic perfection. A dark veil concealed her face.

Her true concealment came from her unique constitution. Her body absorbed shadow energy, masking her heartbeat, breathing, and spiritual fluctuations completely. To the sect’s defensive arrays, she was merely cold night air.

She bypassed a patrol effortlessly. Deacon Wang had paid a fortune for this boy’s death. She would end it quickly.

She arrived outside the restricted Tier-2 workshop.

Inside, the iron doors were tightly sealed. Lin Tian sat cross-legged in the center, stripped to his waist. His scarred torso rose and fell in rhythmic breathing. He was consolidating his newly acquired 11th Layer of Qi Refining.

His Dantian held a vast ocean of golden spiritual mist, roaring with kinetic potential.

Suddenly, a profound stillness washed over the workshop.

To an ordinary cultivator, nothing had changed. But Lin Tian’s expanded neural field felt a microscopic shift in spiritual resonance.

Scattered across hidden corners were a dozen coin-sized micro-arrays forming an invisible ’Runic Resonance Web’. One thread near the ventilation shaft had just been severed. No sound. No killing intent. Just a chilling void.

His eyes snapped open. Someone was here. Foundation Establishment.

He did not move. He maintained his meditative posture, slowing his heart rate. The Vulture knew the best way to hunt a predator was to play the perfect prey.

From the ventilation shaft above, Lady Yun descended like a falling leaf. Completely devoid of weight.

Her eyes locked onto his broad back. His Qi density was abnormal. No wonder Deacon Wang was terrified. But flesh was still flesh.

She drew her pitch-black daggers. Forged from cold-iron, coated in spiritual venom that froze blood on contact.

With a silent push, she dove.

Her strike aimed at the gap between his cervical vertebrae.

Five feet. Three feet. One foot.

Clang!

A deafening collision rang through the workshop!

Lady Yun’s eyes widened. Her daggers had not pierced flesh. They had clashed against a heavy forging hammer that appeared out of nowhere!

In the fraction of a breath, Lin Tian had twisted his waist, his 11th Layer kinetic force exploding. He swung the massive hammer backward, perfectly intercepting her strike.

“A shadow that bleeds cold air,” Lin Tian sneered, tossing the sliced hammer aside. “You must be the ghost sent by Deacon Wang.”

Lady Yun did not speak. Assassins did not waste breath on dying men.

Her shock was replaced by cold killing intent. A Qi Gathering junior blocking her strike was humiliation.

Whoosh!

Her figure blurred, transforming into three shadow-clones surrounding him from left, right, and above. Foundation Establishment liquid Qi powered the movement.

The pressure crashed down like a falling mountain. The air turned freezing cold.

Lin Tian stomped violently against the ground. Stone tiles shattered. He used the recoil to launch himself backward, narrowly dodging the converging shadows. The daggers sliced through his afterimage, leaving frost-covered gashes in the floor.

“You are fast,” Lady Yun’s voice echoed from all directions. “But you cannot outrun a realm disparity.”

“I don’t need to outrun you,” Lin Tian replied, his back hitting the blazing smelting furnace. “I just need to change the battlefield.”

He slammed his palm against a specific runic node on the furnace.

RUMBLE!

The massive furnace groaned. Containment arrays deactivated. A torrential flood of blindingly bright molten cold-iron poured out like a volcanic eruption, sweeping across the workshop floor toward Lady Yun!

The temperature skyrocketed from freezing to hellish inferno.

Lady Yun’s brows furrowed. Her constitution despised extreme heat. She leaped gracefully into the air, toes tapping falling sparks to gain altitude, avoiding the molten river.

“You think heat can stop me?” she called down, her voice carrying a hint of amusement. “I have killed men who commanded fire itself.”

“Then you’ll appreciate this,” Lin Tian shot back.

As she hovered mid-air, he rolled to his workbench and grabbed his modified pneumatic crossbow. Enhanced by Earth’s mechanics and Cultivation runes, it was a Tier 1 Peak-Grade masterpiece.

He aimed at the space where her momentum would carry her.

Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!

Three armor-piercing bolts shot forth, breaking the sound barrier.

Lady Yun’s eyes narrowed. Such terrifying force!

She twisted her supple waist mid-air with unbelievable flexibility. Her daggers danced, parrying the bolts.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

The bolts deflected, but the brutal momentum caused her arms to go numb. Her graceful descent was disrupted, forcing her to land heavily near the center.

“Got you,” Lin Tian whispered.

He formed a hand seal, channeling his 11th Layer Yang Qi into the floor.

Instantly, the twelve coin-sized micro-arrays flared with blinding blue light!

’Heavy-Earth Gravitational Runes’ and ’Binding-Wind Runes’ compressed into a flawless matrix.

Hummmmm!

A terrifying gravitational pressure slammed down upon Lady Yun. Ten boulders chained to her limbs. Microscopic wind threads whipped around her wrists and ankles.

She stumbled, her Foundation Establishment aura flickering wildly.

“Impressive,” Lady Yun breathed, struggling against the pressure. “I have killed Foundation Establishment elders who could not weave such traps. To force a Shadow Blade into a corner using mere Qi Gathering tricks… you have earned the right to die by my true strength.”

BOOM!

A suffocating wave of absolute-zero energy erupted from her Dantian. Liquid Foundation Establishment Qi surged through her meridians. The wind shackles snapped like twigs. The array coins in the floor began to crack and shatter under her freezing pressure.

The molten iron turned black, cooling into brittle slag. Frost climbed up the walls. Ice spread across the floor, creeping toward Lin Tian’s bare feet.

Lin Tian felt his blood slowing. His breath came out in white clouds. The realm disparity was absolute. A trapped beast was most dangerous.

“Your traps are clever,” Lady Yun said, stepping forward through the frost. “But cleverness cannot bridge the gap between our realms. You are Qi Gathering. I am Foundation Establishment. Your tricks are child’s play against liquid Qi.”

She raised her daggers, the frozen blades gleaming in the dim light.

“Any last words, little monster?”

Lin Tian stood tall, his golden Yang Qi burning like a solitary sun in the freezing void. His stellar eyes locked onto her trembling form.

“Just one,” he said, a cold smile spreading across his face. “You’re unstable. Your power is immense, but it’s tearing you apart from the inside.”

Lady Yun’s eyes widened beneath her veil. For the first time, true shock flickered across her features.

“You… how could you know that?”

“I see what others miss,” Lin Tian replied. “Your flow is chaotic. Your energy surges, but you can’t fully control it. Every time you push your power, you damage yourself. And right now… you’re pushing yourself too hard.”

Lady Yun’s body trembled. A violent shiver ran down her spine. The ice around her flickered, momentarily unstable.

“You’re bluffing,” she hissed.

“Am I?” Lin Tian’s smile widened. “Then strike. End me. Show me you can actually land a killing blow before your own body betrays you.”

Lady Yun lunged. Her daggers slashed toward his throat.

But her movements were slower now. More desperate. The flaw in her flow was widening, her internal energy rebelling against her command.

Lin Tian sidestepped, his 11th Layer speed carrying him just out of reach. He grabbed a nearby forging hammer—the last intact one on his workbench.

Clang!

Their weapons met. The impact sent shockwaves through the room.

“You’re weakening,” Lin Tian observed, pressing his advantage. “The cold isn’t just freezing me. It’s freezing you too. How long until your meridians shatter? How long until your heart freezes solid?”

Lady Yun snarled, pushing harder. Her daggers flared with frost, leaving trails of ice in the air.

“You talk too much, boy. Let’s see how long you last when I stop holding back.”

“Then stop holding back,” Lin Tian said, his voice calm and infuriating. “Show me the true power of a Foundation Establishment expert. Show me what happens when you burn through all your energy trying to kill a Qi Gathering junior.”

Lady Yun roared—a sound of pure rage. She unleashed everything. Her full Foundation Establishment power flooded the workshop, turning it into a frozen wasteland.

Ice covered every surface. Frost formed on Lin Tian’s skin. His blood slowed to a crawl. His lungs burned.

But he didn’t fall.

He stood there, golden Yang Qi blazing, his eyes fixed on her trembling form.

Lady Yun staggered forward, her breathing ragged. Her daggers trembled in her grip.

“Die,” she hissed, raising her weapons for a final strike. “Just… die!”

But her body betrayed her. A violent shudder ran through her frame. Her legs buckled. She fell to one knee, gasping for air.

The ice around her flickered and receded. The freezing pressure in the room lessened.

Lin Tian stood over her, his golden eyes burning in the darkness.

“You can’t kill me,” he said softly. “Not like this. Not when your own body is fighting against you.”

Lady Yun looked up at him, hatred and desperation warring in her gaze.

“Then finish me,” she spat. “You’ve won. End it.”

Lin Tian studied her for a long moment. Her trembling form. Her labored breathing. The unstable energy crackling around her like wild lightning.

He could end her. One strike. One blow. It would be easy.

But he didn’t move.

“System,” Lin Tian commanded internally, his gaze turning profound and absolute. “Activate the Insight Eye. Let’s see what is truly hiding beneath the shadows of this assassin.”

As the freezing domain of the Ghost Market Queen threatened to turn him into an ice statue, Lin Tian prepared to tear apart her deepest, darkest secrets.
