Chapter 256: Epilogue: Romantic weekend (4)

0 Views 0 Comments

The sun slowly sinks behind the mountain peaks, painting the sky in muted shades of pink and orange.

Axel and Melania walk hand in hand along the snow-covered trail leading deep into the woods.

All around them, pines and firs rise from the snow, as though nature itself had decorated their branches with delicate tips of ice that shimmer in the fading light of sunset.

Melania’s soft, peaceful gaze wanders across the enchanting scenery as she snuggles closer to Axel.

“This really has been the best weekend of my life, Axel. You’ve made me the happiest woman in the world. I love you so much…”

“Well, back at Frank’s, I told you it was going to be an unforgettable weekend, didn’t I?”

Then his voice grows quieter, losing all its warmth.

“Yeah… I love you too. So much… too much, unfortunately…”

As he says those words, a tear rolls down his freezing cheek.

His breathing grows so hot and ragged that every breath leaving his mouth turns into a thick cloud of white mist.

Melania suddenly stops in her tracks and gives him a confused, worried look.

“W-What did you mean by that…? And why are you crying now…?”

“Melania… close your eyes, please…”

“Why are you asking me to do that…?”

“Just do it. And no matter what happens, don’t open them until I tell you to, okay?”

“O-Okay, sure… but promise me you’ll tell me what’s wrong afterward, okay? Ever since we left, I’ve noticed you looking down from time to time. I pretended not to notice because I didn’t want to ruin the mood, but I can’t stand seeing you like this anymore. This isn’t like you.”

“Okay. But for now, close your eyes.”

Melania nods and does as he asks.

With her eyes squeezed shut so tightly that not even the faintest sliver of light can slip through, she parts her lips slightly, letting the tip of her tongue peek just past them.

What Melania expects is a kiss…

…but what comes instead is the cold blood-forged blade of his axe, slicing clean through her neck in a single blow.

Melania’s severed head, her eyes still closed, rolls to a stop at Axel’s feet as a spray of blood splatters him from head to toe.

“W-What the fuck… What the fuck did I just do…?”

The axe slips from his limp fingers and clatters against the rocks along the trail.

A moment later, Axel himself collapses, dropping heavily to his knees.

He presses both hands over his mouth, desperately trying to hold back a scream as tears stream down his face, each drop falling into the pool of Melania’s blood spreading beneath him.

But the pain tearing through him from within is too overwhelming to suppress.

Axel raises his eyes to the sky, and a desperate scream erupts from his throat — so piercing and agonizing that it echoes throughout the entire forest, sending the animals fleeing in terror.

Then, something happens.

A black magic circle spreads beneath him, with Axel directly at its center.

A dark aura rises from the circle and completely engulfs him.

It pours into his body through his mouth, nose, and ears, abruptly smothering his desperate scream.

It lasts only a few seconds.

Then the circle begins to shrink until it disappears entirely, and along with it, the black aura fades away.

“Melania… forgive me…” he murmurs wearily, drained by the ordeal, as he gently strokes her severed head.

He barely manages to get the words out when a violent surge rises from deep inside him, culminating in a torrent of blood pouring from his mouth.

Not red blood, but something so black and viscous that it looks like tar.

For several minutes, Axel silently gazes at the succubus’s lifeless body, his expression twisted with pain.

Then, slowly, he reaches for the black metal medallion he always wears around his neck and weakly closes his fingers around it.

All of a sudden, the pendant begins to glow with black light as cracks spread across its surface.

Axel tightens his grip, shattering it completely.

The moment the metal fragments hit the ground, they dissolve into a dark mist that swirls together, gradually taking on a humanoid shape.

Then, all at once, the mist disperses, leaving Axel’s mother standing in its place — the Archwitch Veronica Lustsilk.

The woman’s satisfied gaze immediately falls upon Melania Narkhalis’s corpse.

“Impressive. I honestly didn’t think you’d find the strength to actually go through with it. I’m truly proud of you, my little one.”

“Thank you…”

But the satisfaction in her eyes gives way to compassion when her gaze shifts to Axel, still kneeling there with his eyes fixed on the ground as heavy tears fall onto the snow.

She kneels beside him and pulls him into a tight embrace, gently guiding his face against her soft breasts like a pillow.

“You don’t have to be sad, my little Axy…” she murmurs warmly, stroking his head with one hand and the inside of his thigh with the other.

“…I’m here with you now. You don’t need her…”

Her hand moves to his cock and begins stroking it eagerly.

“…let me take care of you like I used to, before that little succubus came into your life…”

“Y-Yes, Mom…”

◇◇◇

Knock! Knock!

“Come in.”

Clarissa Felmont enters Frank Pyton’s office as soon as he gives her permission.

“You summoned me, Boss?”

Frank closes the Rithzargul and raises his eyes to the woman.

“Any updates on the Tokyo situation?”

“Nothing new, Boss. Neither from Lords Zayn Thzraneel and Raelor Valraen, nor from Mr. John Kendrow regarding the Crimson Requiem.”

At those words, Frank falls into a contemplative silence.

Using the authority of John Kendrow, a general of HESPARC U.S., Frank had already arranged for the Crimson Requiem’s return to Elyndra once they recovered the Tear of Azkarith.

After obtaining the divine artifact, the five vampires were supposed to contact John, who would then secure their passage back to the realm of Mildelar through one of the portals under HESPARC U.S. supervision.

On top of that, Frank had also made arrangements with Zayn and Raelor: once their mission was complete, he would arrange a private flight to bring them back to the United States, where they would personally deliver the divine artifact into the hands of the Archwitch Veronica.

An outcome Frank hoped would never come to pass.

But nearly a week has passed since that night, and neither the two members of the Cult of the Primordial Shadow nor the Crimson Requiem have made contact again.

To Frank, that can only mean one thing.

“I can’t believe Platinum managed to get rid of both Zayn and Raelor and the Crimson Requiem. Even someone like her shouldn’t be capable of that. It’s obvious someone over there is helping her. All the better,” Frank remarks, not the least bit troubled as he lights a cigar.

“As for why I summoned you,” he continues, “I’ll be away indefinitely. Until I return, I’m leaving the organization in your hands. I have complete faith in you, Blue. I’m certain you’ll do an excellent job.”

The woman immediately panics at those words and starts shaking like a leaf.

“A-Are you really sure, Boss…? Honestly, I don’t think I’m capable of living up to your expectations. Not to mention, the election campaign will be starting soon, and you already have several TV appearances on your schedule. Anyway… where are you going? I don’t remember scheduling any trips for you around this time. And besides—”

“Calm down, Blue. I’ll be back in time for the start of the election campaign, so don’t worry. As for the trip, inform Ms. Lustsilk that we’ll be leaving for N’Raeth tomorrow. And while you’re at it, tell Black and Green to get ready to come with us.”

“N-N’Raeth…? Why do you want to return to your homeworld, if I may ask?”

A smug grin spreads across Frank’s face.

“I think I’ve finally found the location of a divine artifact — the Armlet of Orzyath.”
