Chapter 220: There’s something I want
After a while Pope Mirishu regained her composure and said with a troubled smile, “I’m a little tired.” Relia and Tia proposed ending the day’s meeting. I added that if they wanted to ask more later they could summon me. We stood and watched until Pope Mirishu and Kuna-san left the room. Then Pope Mirishu suddenly stopped, turned only her face toward me, smiled, and opened her mouth.
“Meeting you was Lady Riera’s guidance, wasn’t it.”
“…No. It was ’coincidence.’”
“Kusu. ’Coincidence’… is it.”
She narrowed her eyes a little like she was enjoying herself, turned her face toward the door, and left the room. When the door closed I felt like Kuna-san looked at me and laughed happily, but I wanted to think that was my imagination.
…I had thought they would press me once Pope Mirishu was gone, but that was not the case. Relia, Tia, and Karinal were consulting about something with Lea. Sharle came over with freshly poured tea in her hands. I sat back down, took the tea from Sharle, and let out a breath of relief.
“Did you think you would be questioned?”
“…Did it show on my face?”
“Fufufu. Yes. It was amusing.”
I smiled wryly at Sharle’s words and rubbed the back of my neck with one hand. Relia and the others came over and asked if they could share what had just happened with my lovers. I smiled and answered “I don’t mind.” Relia, Tia, and Karinal looked a little surprised, but as expected only Lea and Sharle had cool faces. More than that I turned to Relia and Tia, smiled in a troubled way, and asked,
“Why do the three of you care about my lovers too?”
“Because we want to enter that circle as well. Isn’t it natural to care?”
“Just as Relia-anesama says. Everything starts from being trusted, Raide-sama.”
“I-I’ll plead the fifth…”
The words were so direct I smiled wryly. For a while Relia and Tia told me what Pope Mirishu would do from here, and that day’s talk ended. We parted from the three in the reception room, and I, Lea, and Sharle started walking toward the outside of the castle. I was heading back to Nifa Inn after this, but… I had a really bad feeling. If I put it into words it was like a child’s feeling before getting scolded, an indescribable heaviness in my legs. Outside the castle a carriage Relia and Tia had arranged was waiting. When I got in, Lea and Sharle came in too and I tilted my head.
“Is Lea going to Nifa Inn too?”
“Nnfufu~. Not just me. ’Everyone’ is waiting at Nifa Inn for you to come back.”
“…My heart is heavy.”
“This time it’s your fault, Raide!”
“Give up and accept it.”
I looked up at the carriage ceiling with a slightly distant gaze and felt like I understood Erika’s and Relia and Tia’s feelings. After that, when I returned to Nifa Inn I got scolded and worried over by the lovers who had gathered in the building next door. Even just the lovers was enough to fill my stomach, and then the twins and the adventurers thoroughly scolded me with “You made the landladies worry too much!” and I was done for. The talk about Lady Riera had been shared but did not come up as a topic. They had probably been considerate. For the record, because it was late that day the night roads were dangerous for going home, so the lovers were having a sleepover. That room could definitely hold everyone without a problem. Sharle and the others had casually mixed in too. I got back to my own room and went to bed after one in the morning. Even though I had slept like a rock in the cell, the moment I lay on the bed sleep hit me and I dropped off at once. It was a day I really thought consultation was important, and also a day I recognized that I must not make my lovers angry. As an aside, the dream I had that day was of my lovers thoroughly lecturing me about “consultation.” Needless to say, I could not forget it even after I woke up.
I woke to the feel of someone on top of me and lightly rubbed my eyes with one hand. A little light was coming in through the room window, so I could tell it was early morning. I lifted my head from lying on my back and checked who was on me. My eyes met Pafa’s, who was smiling softly. I gently hugged Pafa’s body. She fidgeted in my arms and brought her face closer.
“Mornin’, Raide.”
“Morning, Pafa. What’s wrong, this early?”
“Hey. There’s something I want.”
“Something you want?”
Pafa showed me the hand wearing the bracelet in front of my face, said “I want one more bracelet,” and smiled. I thought maybe, understood, nodded, and kissed Pafa’s forehead. After enjoying Pafa’s warmth for a while I had her get off, sat up, and stretched. I stood, took the last bracelet I had bought in Santony from the Magic Bag on the desk, and handed it to Pafa. I was glad I had bought up to the limit of five. I would have to go again to restock. There was also someone there who would examine skills, so I would have had to go either way. Pafa took the bracelet, wrapped it carefully in both hands, hugged it, and looked happy with a soft smile. Just seeing that made me happy. Was I that easy?
We had a lively breakfast with the lovers in the building next door. Croana, Fia, and Lea had to unlock the academy and headed there first. I helped a little at the inn, then headed to the academy with Erika, Aurora and the other two, Rinelle, Porte, and the twins. On the way I asked Erika and the others about yesterday inside the academy and was impressed. Roy and Hilbyid had worked together and pulled the classroom together after Relia and Tia were gone.
“I helped a little as well, but they were working hard, you know?”
“I see. Hilbyid, huh…”
“They may be rivals, but in my eyes they also looked like comrades-in-arms.”
Comrades-in-arms… true, rivals and comrades-in-arms were a little different. Competing did not change, but they rarely turned hostile. I was surprised by Erika and the others’ view that that was how it looked to women. Consultation really was important… I remembered yesterday and smiled wryly. While I was hearing from Aurora and the others as well, we arrived at the academy before I knew it. Just as we passed through the main gate I heard a carriage stop behind us. We halted and turned. Relia and Tia got out of the carriage, found me, smiled in a troubled way, and looked away. What was this. I had a bad feeling again. My bad feelings kept hitting, and when I saw the person who appeared from inside the carriage I got a distant look the same as Erika beside me.
The ones who came out were Pope Mirishu and Kuna-san. When they found me they smiled faintly, looking happy. I was honestly glad they had come to visit, but that outfit stretched tight in a bright place was bad. You could even see the outline… of her nipples. On top of that, yesterday it had not stood out because we were indoors, but the white fabric was a little see-through. Pope Mirishu’s white skin was slightly visible. This was something Kuna-san needed to notice more than I did… There were a few men among the faculty and students at the academy, and I was no exception.
Pope Mirishu slowly waved one hand in front of her chest. I bowed, then asked Erika beside me,
“Is Flower Mist open at this hour?”
“…It opens at nine so they should be inside, but you can’t mean…”
“Sorry. Erika is the only one I can ask… I’ll make it up to you. Will you take the request?”
“Fufu. Fufufu. I’ll have you do as I say for a day.”
Erika answered with a distant look and I nodded hard at her demand. As she started to walk I added a whisper while looking at Kuna-san. She let out a small sigh but nodded. What I whispered was about Kuna-san, and it was about her chest, so I asked while I was at it. She was dressed like a butler, but her chest looked smaller than the size written in the profile. She should have been bearing slightly large grapefruits, but it looked like she had cloth wrapped the way Hilbyid did. She did not seem to be hiding that she was a woman, though. She was wearing a hint of makeup.
Erika seemed to intend to go through Relia and Tia first. She started talking with the two of them, and I told Aurora and the others to head to the classroom.
