Chapter 517: My Mafia Boss Girlfriend
Heka’s eyes turned and locked on the girl at the corner, as bloodlust began to seep through very slowly, but extraordinarily.
The air around her seemed to thicken, the temperature dropping as her anger radiated outward. She was not playing, not teasing, not indulging in her usual masochistic fantasies. She was seriously angry and protective, and that was more terrifying than anything I had ever seen from her.
It was like the entire guild began to vibrate, as if the peak afternoon turned into dark night for a second, and I was certain Heka would rush towards the girl any second.
The force grew heavy, thick with tension that seemed to press down on everyone in the hall.
The ambient noise of the guild—the clinking of cups, the murmur of conversations, the laughter and shouts of adventurers—all of it faded into a dull hum, drowned out by the intensity of Heka’s fury.
Her body was coiled, ready to spring, her muscles taut beneath her skin, and I could see the veins in her neck bulging with suppressed rage.
Damn, she was going to explode!!
She—
“Enough,” but before I would intervene, Aladdin spoke up from his seat with the emo chick.
His voice was calm and measured, cutting through the tension like a knife through butter.
He had not moved from his seat, and his voice was not raised, but there was an authority in his words that demanded attention. “Please, forgive my companion. She is just wary since you singlehandedly killed that dragon.”
The moment he said that, the guild started mumbling, eyes started moving from poor me to Heka, awe and fear alike.
The adventurers shifted in their seats, their gazes darting between the two of us, their expressions possessing apprehension.
They had heard the rumors, had seen the aftermath of the battle, but now they were hearing confirmation from a trusted source.
Heka had killed the dragon. Heka was the one who had saved the city.
“Put her on a leash then,” Heka shifted her focus back to her ale, looking the most badass I have ever seen.
She raised the wooden cup to her lips, taking a long, deliberate sip, her eyes never leaving the emo girl across the room.
Her voice was dismissive, with the weight of someone who had faced far greater threats than some brooding child. “I will not tolerate a second affront, you hear?”
“Of course,” Aladdin smiled and pulled the emo girl’s cheek, scolding her about boundaries and respect.
He tugged at the pale skin, stretching it slightly, as the girl’s stoic expression cracked into a grimace of annoyance.
…Kyaaahhh!
Heka looked just like one of those Mafia women I see in the movies!
The thought made my heart flutter, a surge of admiration and affection washing over me.
She was cool, composed, utterly in control, and she had just defended my honor without breaking a sweat.
I don’t get to see this side of her at all, since Sara and the others seem more bossy and ruling. Around her family, she was deferential, almost submissive, but here, in the midst of strangers, she was a force to be reckoned with.
“Hehe… Thanks for that,” I said, smiling at her, “Getting angry for me like that. I love you so much!”
She immediately blushed, using her wooden cup to hide her face a bit.
The tips of her ears turned a dark shade of red, and she ducked her head, her eyes suddenly fixed on the table.
It was so adorable, a glimpse of the vulnerable woman beneath the fearsome warrior.
And just then, a big fool walked in to spoil the moment.
I mean, he just heard Heka was the one who killed a dragon singlehandedly, even if it was allegedly “weakened” (of which both were untrue, but still).
The man strode through the guild floor with an air of confidence that bordered on arrogance, his eyes scanning the room but they landed on us.
“Hey there, pretty face!”
Oh my God, I never knew these guys would one day meet me in Elyndor. These pretty boys type who think they own the world.
His voice was loud, boisterous, and he moved through the crowd with the easy swagger of someone who was used to getting what he wanted.
He was handsome, undeniably so, with chiseled features and a winning smile that probably made women swoon.
Actually, I used to be very jealous of them in my past life, because they have it all, and I was just gloomy and depressed.
The thought was a flash of old pain, a reminder of the person I used to be.
[But I bet he doesn’t have a village of warrior women requesting he sleeps with them, and love him for who he is! So I win…!]
The thought made me feel better, a smug satisfaction settling over me.
[Argh, I feel like a sore loser now.]
The feeling faded quickly, replaced by embarrassment at my own pettiness.
Anyway, I wondered what Heka was going to do… but she completely ignored the handsome and burly man, continuing with her ale.
She seem to like it as well.
But she did not even glance at him, did not acknowledge his presence in any way. She simply raised her cup to her lips and drank, her eyes fixed on some distant point beyond his shoulder.
The Adventurer looked like a typical one: fairly good looking medieval clothes with light armor covering his arms, chest, and other regions of the body.
His outfit was practical, designed for combat, but it was also stylish, clearly tailored to fit his muscular frame. The armor was polished, gleaming in the torchlight, and the fabric beneath was clean and well-maintained.
With brown hair, brown eyes, some scars on his neck, and a muscular build, he stood as tall as 6 feet or so.
Some Amazons are 8 and 9 feet, so it didn’t seem that impressive to me.
But from a normal perspective, he was one of the people you would notice if you entered a room.
He also looked fairly strong for a human—using the system Sys made for me to determine the fairies power level, he’d be way below the ranking, though.
{Race – Human}
{Name – Octavius}
Huh? It gets names now? Scary.
The ranking system had never given me names before, and never identified individuals beyond their basic attributes. This was new, and it made me wonder what else had changed.
Serpentine Gaze seemed to have grown as well, maybe when I became a demi-god? Or maybe Sys is just trying too hard…
{Magic level – 100/2000}
{Strength level – 300/2000}
That’s impressive for a human, since that’s the average strength of a normal Amazon or strength-based beastkin, like a buffalo or moose person.
The numbers were higher than I expected, a testament to the man’s training and natural ability. He was not someone to be taken lightly, if you were a regular human, of course.
But Heka had already dismissed him, and I was content to follow her lead.
